What Is Included in the $95 Initial Orthotic Examination?
New patients begin with an initial foot and biomechanical examination. The appointment includes a 3D digital foot scan and electronic gait analysis.
The purpose of the assessment is to evaluate how your feet and lower extremities function and to determine whether custom orthotics may be appropriate for you.
Why Do Custom Orthotics Cost More Than Store-Bought Insoles?
Custom orthotics and over-the-counter insoles are different products.
Store-bought insoles are manufactured in standard shapes and sizes for general use. Custom orthotics are made for an individual patient following an examination and measurements or scans of the feet.
At Vancouver Orthotics, custom orthotics are prescribed following an assessment and are manufactured specifically for the individual patient.
How Much Do Custom Orthotics Cost in Canada?
The cost of custom orthotics in Canada varies between providers and can depend on the assessment process, manufacturing method, materials and type of orthotic prescribed.
At Vancouver Orthotics, our current fee is $450 for a pair of custom orthotics. New patients also require a $95 initial examination, bringing the initial total to $545.
We believe in making our fees clear before you proceed so that you understand the cost of your assessment and custom orthotics in advance.
Can I Order a Second Pair of Custom Orthotics?
Yes. Patients may want a second pair for different footwear, work shoes, athletic shoes or simply to avoid transferring the same pair of orthotics between shoes.
A second pair ordered within six months of the first purchase is currently $350. This option is available primarily through our four Vancouver offices, so please confirm availability when booking.
Custom Orthotics and Different Types of Footwear
Different shoes can have different amounts of space, support and construction. When custom orthotics are being considered, it is helpful to think about the footwear in which they will most often be worn.
Vancouver Orthotics also offers selected stock orthopedic and orthotic-friendly footwear. These are manufactured shoes and should not be confused with custom-made orthopedic shoes.
For patients interested in sandals, we also offer custom Birkenstock orthotics manufactured through The Orthotic Group (TOG).
Does Insurance Cover the Cost of Custom Orthotics?
Many extended health benefit plans include some level of coverage for custom orthotics, but coverage amounts, eligibility requirements, replacement periods and required documentation vary considerably between insurance plans.
Patients should check directly with their insurance provider before ordering custom orthotics to determine the requirements of their individual plan. Vancouver Orthotics cannot guarantee reimbursement by an insurance company.
